The Brancacci Chapel is located inside the Church of the Carmine in Florence and is an emblem of fifteenth-century Renaissance painting.

The cycle of frescoes by Masaccio and Masolino on the life of St. Peter and the salvation of man is considered a starting point for studying the light, perspective, color and plasticity of the characters. Despite the fire of 1771 that destroyed the Basilica, however, the frescoes, after careful restoration work, have been preserved in the best possible way.

Even today it is perceptible how light is important in creating chiaroscuro surfaces with a plastic effect, similar to sculptures, in which realism, psychological and moral depth and expressive freedom of the characters are unique characteristics of Masaccio’s painting.

Book a guided tour of the Brancacci Chapel in Florence and discover why this chapel revolutionized art history forever.

Brancacci Chapel Tour: What to See with the Guide

The guided tour of the Brancacci Chapel will start from the outside.

After a careful introduction to its history and its vicissitudes, especially due to the fires that have repeatedly tried to completely destroy the environment and its artistic works, the visit will continue inside to analyze and admire the style and technique of Masaccio and Masolino, authors of the cycle of frescoes that covers the entire internal surface.

More than in front of frescoes, it seems to be surrounded by sculptural works in which classical realism, a direct effect of the use of chiaroscuro, is the protagonist of the whole narrative.
