The Museum presents precious collections that belonged to the Medici and Lorraine. The Medici collections are arranged in 9 rooms in which the most famous instruments created by Galileo during the period between the 15th and 18th centuries are located, including telescopes, the objective lens, with which Galileo discovered the so-called Galilean moons of Jupiter, terrestrial and celestial globes, including the giant armillary sphere.
The Lorraine collection, also set up in 9 rooms, includes instruments dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries and used in chemistry, electricity and electromagnetism. There are also obstetric wax models from the ancient hospital of Santa Maria Novella.
