The Stibbert Museum is located in the beautiful Villa di Montughi, built by Frederick Stibbert, an Anglo-Italian collector and businessman from the 1800s who resided here. The house-museum houses a curious and vast collection of weapons, armor, clothes and objects from different eras and origins, collected by Federick throughout his life. At the time of his death, the villa and the collection were donated to the city of Firenze. The Stibbert Museum offers an original and unique experience, a journey back in time in an ancient mansion far from the usual: furnished and decorated with antiques from all over the world.

Armor Museum Tour: What You Will See

The Stibbert Museum houses ancient weapons and art objects.

Inside its rooms in different styles, including neo-Gothic and Renaissance, there are over 50 thousand works of art, including paintings, armor, porcelain, antique furnishings and much more.

The most impressive section of the collections is certainly that of armor with about 16,000 pieces from various eras, mostly from central Europe, the Middle East and Japan. The procession of Italian and German knights covered with armaments dating back to the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and the Japanese collection of samurai with their katanas.

The Museum also houses a collection of Japanese fairy tales, poems, songs and calendars by Japanese artist Takejiro Hasegawa. There are also works of painting, including by Botticelli, antique furniture dating back to 400 and 700 and leather upholstery.

The Museum is surrounded by a large English-style park with fountains and sculptures. Made up of intertwining paths and tall trees, including cypresses, the typical Tuscan tree. A small lake on the shores of which there is a small temple in neo-Egyptian style is an ornament.
